Aims:
The aim of this module is to introduce Design Methodologies (structured and object orientated) in the context of the software engineering discipline and to provide a theoretical and practical understanding of the software analysis, design and development process.

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
Concepts, principles & theories explored in formal lectures, practised & demonstrated in supervised laboratory. The students will also attend seminars (forums) presented by professional speakers from the industry. Their practical skills and understanding of the principles of information systems analysis and design methodologies will be assessed in a coursework based on mini case studies. Written assessment will based upon the student`s application to the theoretical aspect of the module.

Outline Syllabus:
A theme to be carried through the module is to provide students with a practical understanding of the software analysis, design and development process. The laboratory work will be carried out using CASE tools and the main emphasis is on the object-oriented design method UML. 1. Basic principles of system development. 2. Software processors (process model). 3. Systems Analysis (system requirements, requirements capture methods). 4. System Design Methods (structured methods, OO methods - UML).
