Aims:
To introduce the concept of commercial awareness by drawing on a range of business case studies from across a variety of commercial areas. To provide students with the opportunity to develop the business skills and knowledge necessary to work freelance, run a business venture and compete in a commercial environment. To reflect on their skills and competencies and how these could underpin future aspirations for self-employment.

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
Lectures, seminars and tutorials will outline key aspects of commercial awareness and provide an opportunity for the practice and development of business skills. This will be supported by individual and group tasks and discussion, within seminars and tutorials. Assessment will be based on the documentation and presentation of a new business plan. Students will be allowed to self-form groups (up to 5 members) or work individually to develop a realistic start-up strategy. Supplementary assessment requires the repair of deficiencies in the original assessment, with individual work substituted for group work if necessary.
