Philosophy of Limit State Design and partial safety factors as applied to reinforced concrete design; Concept of load transfer in reinforced concrete buildings; Load combinations to give the design BM and SF envelopes for ultimate limit states; Calculation of moment of resistance or area of steel of a reinforced concrete section from first principles; Design of RC structural elements for serviceability limit states; RC Beam design - flanged beams, deflections, shear, doubly reinforced; RC Slab design - types of slabs, flexure, deflection, shear, durability; RC column design - short or slender columns, short column under axial loads and/or moment;
