Aims:
1. Strengthen problem solving, team working, time mamangement and communication skills through participation in a realistic engineering project.

2. Appreciate, for a particular project, the compromises that are necessary for the realisation of an economically and practically viable engineering solution.

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
Group project work forms the core of the module, which is assessed via demonstrations and a group report. Specific issues encountered are tackled in tutorial sessions.

Requirements capture and specification. Outline design specification. Role of research. Detailed design. Design of tests. Bread-boarding and prototyping. Implementation of manufacture. Unit testing. System testing. Role of computers in design including appropriate programming. Application of design concepts in group-based design, make and test projects. WEEE, RoSHH, recycling and sustainability.
