Aims:
To critically apply the techniques learnt in Advanced Embedded Systems Design to the design & implementation of an embedded system for a practical engineering application.

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
Practical work in pairs on coursework project, supported by a short series of laboratories to introduce the new software and hardware. Reinforced by student private study using problem-solving exercises. Supplementary - to repair deficiencies in original assessment.

Outline Syllabus:
Embedded Systems: definition, application, components and design.
Real-time microcontroller based systems.
Application: detailed consideration of specific microcontroller and programmable logic devices including hardware, software and development and testing environments.
Use of fixed-point arithmetic, analogue to digital conversion and storing and recording data from sensors.
