Aims:
To enable students to develop their research and problem solving skills to a high level, by advanced work on a research project on an automotive Engineering Quality Improvement theme; to allow students to develop the skills of writing a formal academic dissertation.

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
Project preparation and research followed by practical work and regular meetings with project supervisors; production of a dissertation.

successfully apply engineering quality improvement tools to the solution of practical engineering problems; you will be able to competently plan and design an experiment, apply modern procedures for data collection, modelling and analysis, and develop an empirical model for a given engineering problem.

manage, analyse and present complex data, apply scientific method in the context of an automotive engineering problem.

Outline Syllabus:
The project is based on the application of Engineering Quality Improvement tools and disciplines to a practical automotive research problem, involving reliability and robustness improvement and design optimisation. It should involve the student in any combination of literature/library investigative work, the development and application of practical skills in laboratory/pilot scale research project; use of computational techniques to solve a problem in engineering research or innovative design.

All projects should involve a measure of independence and scope such as that the student may express some initiative and/or innovation.
