Aims:
To develop the knowledge of applying CAE in Virtual Product Design and virtual modelling to allow the behaviour of mechanical systems, particularly a vehicle power train and chassis system to be simulated, analysed and designed using CAE tools such as ADAMS and NX5/IDEAS

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
The subject matter is introduced by lectures, seminars from practitioners, and evaluation of hardware. Technical knowledge is consolidated by hands-on CAE analysis to simulate a mechanical system or sub-system, supported by guidance from tutors and case studies.

Outline Syllabus:
Introduction to dynamic analysis using analytical method and modelling using CAE tools. Engine and driveline, velocity and acceleration. Gearing and power transmission, driveline modelling. Vehicle sub-system and component design/analysis fundamentals (kinematics/kinetics analysis; thermal induced instability analysis): including Driveline, clutches, synchronizer, gear-sets, deferential, hook-joint, engine vibration and brakes/regenerative braking ABS.
