Aims:
To provide students with a detailed technological understanding of strategically important issue of sustainable freshwater production

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
Concepts, principles & theories of important desalination processes are explored in classroom teaching with the aid of computational software. Assessment will be by project report and by formal examination.

Outline Syllabus:
Water demand & supply, multistage flash desalination, evaporative desalination, reverse osmosis desalination, freeze desalination, solar desalination, fouling, non-condensable gases, scaling, energy recovery, environmental pollution, modelling & optimisation.

Use of ASPENPLUS and gPROMS for simulation of desalination process, experimentation with evaporative and reverse osmosis desalination
