Aims:
To provide a detailed knowledge base for the networking functions and principles together with their associated protocol operations in mobile and wireless communications systems.

Learning Teaching & Assessment Strategy:
This module will be delivered through a series of lectures supported by directed study and reinforced through tutorial exercises and seminars, whereby theoretical, critical analysis and design skills will be developed and be assessed by examination. Oral feedback is given during tutorial sessions.

* Introduction to mobile and wireless systems: System aspects of current mobile and wireless Communications systems: 2G (GSM),2.5G (GPRS , EDGE) and 3G (UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA), GERAN and UTRAN, LTE, WLAN (802.11x), WPAN (Bluetooth), WMAN (WiMax);

* Regulatory and standardization bodies and processes.
