BIOGRAPHY

1994-1998, University of Stirling, Educational Technologist
1998-2000, University of East London, Lecturer in Media Technology
2000-present, University of Bradford, Lecturer in New Media

Research and Knowledge Exchange
I have published research on the application of framing, space and multimodality to a variety of media texts including, news discourse, film (Allen and Goodall 2007) and Urban Screens (Allen 2008). Lately my work has concentrated on Augmented Public Spaces and in particular the use of large-scale LED screen displays in urban spaces. I develop research strategies that assist in the understanding of the medium; its impact on the urban environment; the investigation of curatorial practices and the management of artistic content.
Further details see the Dwell-Time website.

I am an Academic Leader in the C3KE (Centre for Creative and Cultural Knowledge Exchange) Partnership.
For further details see: C3KE website.

I am a founder member of the Bradford Grid Project - Photography and New Media.

Curriculum Innovation and Policy Development
I lead many new initiatives within the School of Informatics and across the University as a whole. I have championed new course developments, such as a new BA programme in Live Arts and Performance and the MA in Digital Arts and Media.

I am a key player in developing and embedding inclusive policy and practice across the institution and at the moment provide Academic Leadership for The Inclusive Campus project. I am Project Manager for the i-Campus initiative developing CPD tools for Inclusive Practice in Learning and Teaching.
